How to Trigger Automations From AI Studio Forms in GoHighLevel

April 22, 202611 min read

GoHighLevel's AI Studio is one of the most exciting features to hit the platform. You can describe what you want in plain English and it will build entire websites, landing pages, and opt-in forms for you using vibe coding. The results are impressive, and people are already building some seriously powerful stuff with it.

But there is a gap that trips people up right away: the forms AI Studio creates are not native GoHighLevel forms. They are custom-coded HTML forms, which means they do not show up in your regular Forms section and they do not automatically trigger your workflows when someone submits them.

The fix is simple once you know which trigger to use. In this guide I will walk you through exactly how to connect your AI Studio forms to any automation workflow using the External Tracking Event trigger, so you can capture leads, add tags, send notifications, and run follow-up sequences just like you would with a standard GHL form.

Why AI Studio Forms Are Different

When you use AI Studio to build a page with a form, the AI generates the form using custom HTML and JavaScript. It creates the input fields, handles the styling, and even sets up the data submission. But it does this independently of GoHighLevel's native form builder.

Native Forms vs AI Studio Forms

A native GoHighLevel form is built through the Forms section of your account. It is tied directly to your CRM, automatically creates or updates contact records, and can be selected as a trigger in any workflow. When someone submits a native form, GoHighLevel knows exactly which form it was and can route the submission to the right automation.

An AI Studio form is different. The AI codes the form from scratch based on your prompt. It does create the necessary fields and submits the data to your account, so the contact information still flows into your CRM. But because the form was not built through the native form builder, the standard "Form Submitted" workflow trigger does not recognize it. That is why you need a different approach.

What About Calendars?

Interestingly, AI Studio handles calendars differently from forms. When you ask it to add a calendar to your page, it actually pulls your existing calendars from your account and lets you select which one to embed. It does not code a calendar from scratch. This means calendar bookings from AI Studio pages work with your automations out of the box. Forms just have not caught up to that same level of integration yet.

The Fix: External Tracking Event Trigger

The key to connecting your AI Studio forms to automations is the External Tracking Event trigger. This trigger was designed to capture events from sources outside the native GoHighLevel ecosystem, which is exactly what an AI Studio form submission is.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Go to Automations in your sub-account and click Create Workflow.

  2. Choose Start from Scratch and give your workflow a descriptive name (for example, "AI Studio Weight List Opt-In").

  3. Click Add New Trigger and search for External Tracking Event.

  4. In the trigger filter, set the event to Form Submitted.

  5. You will see a dropdown that lists any forms created through AI Studio. Select the specific form you want to trigger on.

  6. Rename the trigger to something descriptive (for example, "Weight List Form Submitted") and save it.

That is the entire setup for the trigger. When someone fills out that specific AI Studio form, they will be enrolled into this workflow and you can automate anything from there.

Custom HTML/CSS/JAVASCRIPT

Building Out the Automation

Once the trigger is in place, you can build your workflow exactly the same way you would for any other form submission. If you are new to building automations in GoHighLevel, our GoHighLevel automation guide covers the fundamentals you need to know.

Common Actions to Add

  • Add a contact tag so you can segment leads by which form or page they came from.

  • Send an internal notification to alert your team that a new lead came in.

  • Send a confirmation email to the contact with next steps or a welcome message.

  • Create a task for yourself or a team member to follow up personally.

  • Add to a nurture sequence if you want to drip content over time.

The workflow builder gives you full flexibility here. Anything you can do with a native form trigger, you can do with the External Tracking Event trigger. If you have existing workflow actions you want to reuse, you can copy and paste actions between workflows to save time.

Tips for Working With AI Studio Forms

Name Your Workflows Clearly

As you build more AI Studio pages, you will end up with multiple external form triggers. Name each workflow after the specific form or page it belongs to. Something like "AI Studio - [Page Name] - Form Submitted" makes it easy to find and manage later.

Test Before You Launch

After setting up the trigger and workflow, submit a test entry through your AI Studio form. Check that the contact record is created in your CRM, the tag is applied, and any notifications or emails fire correctly. AI Studio forms handle data submission slightly differently than native forms, so it is worth confirming everything flows through properly.

Keep an Eye on AI Studio Updates

AI Studio is still evolving rapidly. The team is adding new capabilities regularly, including SEO-friendly websites, improved database connections, and more native integrations. There is a good chance that form handling will get tighter integration with the native form builder in a future update. For now, the External Tracking Event approach works perfectly and is the officially supported method.

What About Token Costs?

Right now AI Studio is free to use, but GoHighLevel has indicated that token-based pricing will be introduced at some point. If you have been thinking about experimenting with it, now is the time. Build out your pages and forms while it is free, get comfortable with the platform, and have your automations wired up and ready to go. The forms and pages you build now will continue to work after pricing changes.

Next Steps

If you are already using AI Studio for landing pages, go set up the External Tracking Event trigger right now. It takes about two minutes and ensures you are capturing every lead that comes through your vibe-coded forms. [0:00] Hey there! Guys and Gals! Welcome back to my YouTube Channel! In this short video I'm going to show you how you can use the new studio AI builder. And have it build out forms for you. And use those forms to create automations like you normally would with the form. So the new studio AI builder it's awesome. Everybody's raving about it. Vibe coding. So you can just go to a chat and build incredible websites. It can build custom forms for you. But the forms it builds are not the native HighLevel forms. Or if you're an AlphaBlossom user it's not the native form that we have in our account. It just builds custom forms and it does create those fields.

[0:32] And so there's a specific trigger we use that makes it super simple to identify which form using on the vibe coding platform. On the AI studio. And then when somebody submits a form then you can create your automations like you normally would inside of the CRM. So let's jump into it. I'll show you how it's done. Before we do. If you haven't already subscribed to the channel click that subscribe button. Like this video. And leave a comment. Be happy to get back to you. [1:00] And I’m happy to support you along in your way in your journey. So let's get into it. And I'll show you how to set up your automations. So you can make sure to capture all that lead data. And then automate things going forward. So I'm inside of the new AI Studio builder. And if you guys have not played with this yet it's amazing. You can see one of our members created a wait list. Just a very simple opt in page here. With Name Email and Phone Number. So this is basically the page. Problem though is the forms built inside of AI studio are not part of the normal forms that you would see inside of the CRM.

[1:39] Inside of HighLevel CRM. Or if you're an AlphaBlossom user. And so you're probably wondering how can I do automations based on form submission? So let's jump into that. And when you come in here and you use the prompt to say “Hey I want to build an opt in form” It just codes the form for you. Whereas calendars are a little different. It actually pulls the calendars from your account and lets you select which calendar you want to use and embed that. It doesn't do that for forms it just hardcoded the form in there. So let's jump into the main CRM. And let’s going to Automations. Last week I was playing around this. And there was a

[2:10] tricky way of doing it. Where I actually asked a form to add a hidden field. And then I could then use that hidden field to tag the person. Because that information would always be submitted with the form. That was just kind of a workaround. While I kind of played around and discovered it. So here we're going to say create a workflow. Start from scratch. And I'm going to just name this. “AI Studio - Waitlist Optin” Okay. And then we're going to add a new trigger. And the trigger we want to use here is External Tracking Event. So. We’re going to look at that. And then the filter is Event. Is any of. Forms Submitted. So we want to use the

[2:48] form submitted. And I'm not sure we can get more specific than that. External form. Let's see if we can choose that here. There we go. I didn't build this. But I'm pretty sure this is the only one. So I'm going to select this "PIH Pitch Waitlist" And then I'm just going to rename this to "PIH Pitch Waitlist Form Submitted" And then we'll save that trigger. And that's it. So now basically what we have is when somebody ills out that form and specifically this form. Then it's going to trigger them. And enroll them into this automation. And then we can do whatever we want to do from there. So again the trigger we want to use this

[3:25] external tracking event. And then we're going to come in here and you can say add a tag. Add Contact Tag. Select your tags. Then you can save that. Of course you want to name this. I usually name it with what tag you're adding. You can add in internal notifications emails. Anything you can do with the workflows. Now you can do as normal. So the key is you use the external tracking event to trigger this workflow. When somebody fills out the form that you built inside of your AI studio. So hopefully that will help you. To be able to tie your automations in. With your new AI studio forms. Again it's a super awesome builder. I recommend you

[4:00] start playing with it. And soon we'll start seeing things like SEO friendly websites. And maybe even backend database connections. And things like that. Already I've seen people doing really really powerful things with it so. I definitely recommend playing with it. Now while it's free. Maybe you can build out some cool stuff. And then eventually it's going to go to we're going to be charged for tokens to use that. But hopefully you found this helpful. And I'll see you in the next video. Alright! Guys and Gals. That's it! Super simple. If you're not using the new AI studio I really recommend taking a look at it. It's amazing what you can do with it. And just getting better.

[4:29] And now that you know how to integrate it with your forms you can build beautiful websites. It’s very quickly. Very easily. And just capture that data and then bring it into your CRM. And do whatever you need to do with it. So thanks for watching. And again if you're not already subscribed click that subscribe button. Make sure to check out my affiliate links down below.
