Stop Going to Spam: How to Properly Configure GoHighLevel Email & Custom Domains

Duration: Approximately 32 minutes | Published: July 8, 2026

Learn how to configure all GoHighLevel custom domains step-by-step using Cloudflare auto-authorization. Fix email deliverability with dedicated subdomains and SPF/DKIM/DMARC records, white-label shared links, and seamlessly point funnels, WordPress, and membership portals to your brand.

Key Takeaways:

  • White-Label Shared Links with Branded Domains: Setting up a branded subdomain (e.g., link.yourdomain.com) in your business profile ensures direct form links, invoice links, and payment URLs display your custom brand instead of agency default links.

  • Smart Route Handling for Funnels and Websites: When connecting root domains for funnels, stores, or blogs, always set up www-to-non-www redirection (or vice versa) so search engines index a single unified version of your site and avoid duplicate content issues.

  • Subdomain Workaround for Existing Web Hosting: If your root domain is already pointing to an external website or app, you can seamlessly connect subdomains (like go.yourdomain.com) to GoHighLevel without disrupting your main web property.

  • Isolate WordPress Configurations: GoHighLevel’s built-in WordPress management requires its own dedicated DNS configuration (via CNAME and SSL verification), keeping its server and database routing separate from native funnels.

  • Dedicated Subdomains for Email Deliverability: To prevent deliverability issues, build dedicated email subdomains (such as mail.yourdomain.com, book.yourdomain.com, and secure.yourdomain.com) for campaigns, calendar notifications, and transactional messages.

  • Domain Header Alignment: Your email "From" header address (e.g., [email protected]) must share the same root organizational domain as your sending subdomain; mismatched domains trigger severe spam filters in Gmail and Outlook.

  • Multi-Domain Load Balancing & Risk Isolation: Configuring multiple dedicated email subdomains allows you to split sending volume and isolate domain risk—preventing marketing email flags from blocking critical invoice or client portal notifications.

  • Cloudflare Organization and DNS Commenting: Utilizing Cloudflare’s automated API integration simplifies record authorization, while adding internal DNS comments (e.g., "GHL Email Setup") prevents confusion when managing complex record lists.

FAQ's:

Why should I use subdomains instead of my root domain for GoHighLevel email sending?

Using a subdomain like mail.yourdomain.com protects your main domain's sending reputation while keeping your root domain (yourdomain.com) free for primary business email or existing website hosting. Inbox providers like Gmail and Outlook recognize the organizational relationship, allowing high deliverability without cluttering your primary domain's core MX records.

How long does DNS propagation take when connecting domains via Cloudflare?

While standard DNS propagation can technically take up to 48 hours worldwide, connecting GoHighLevel via Cloudflare’s API usually updates instantly or within 10 to 15 minutes. If record verification takes longer than 15–30 minutes, double-check your DNS authorization or proxy settings in Cloudflare.

What happens if my root domain is already hosting my main application or website elsewhere?

You do not need to move your main website to GoHighLevel. Simply create dedicated subdomains—such as go.yourdomain.com for funnels, WP.yourdomain.com for WordPress, and link.yourdomain.com for shared forms—to keep your existing platform running smoothly alongside GoHighLevel.

Why are my emails going to the spam folder even after verifying my email domain?

Spam issues usually stem from mismatched sender headers or sending cold emails at high volume on a brand-new domain. Ensure your "From" email header matches your verified root domain, and gradually warm up new sending subdomains over the first few weeks rather than sending thousands of bulk emails immediately.

Can I use the same custom domain for both my funnel pages and my blog in GoHighLevel?

Yes. Unlike some external platforms, GoHighLevel natively handles domain extensions for blogs and funnels seamlessly on the same connected domain (e.g., yourdomain.com for the main site and [yourdomain.com/blog](https://yourdomain.com/blog) for the blog articles).

[0:00] Hey guys and gals! In this video, I'm going to show you how to set up all of your domains inside your GoHighLevel account. If you're an AlphaBlossom CRM member, this guide applies to you as well. Domain setup can seem a little confusing because there are several different places where you configure them. The goal is to replace the default agency domains with your own branded domains, creating a more professional experience for your customers. We'll cover branded domains, funnels, websites, blogs, WordPress, email domains, calendar links, and client portals, so by the end of this video you'll have everything configured correctly.

[2:30] Let's start with branded domains. This is the domain that's used whenever you share forms, payment links, or other assets directly instead of embedding them on a page. By default, these links use your agency's domain, but with a branded domain you can use your own, such as link.yourdomain.com. I'll show you how to connect it through your Business Profile settings, authorize it with Cloudflare, and explain what to expect while your DNS records propagate.

[5:45] Next, we'll set up domains for funnels, websites, blogs, webinars, and online stores. You'll learn how to connect an existing domain, choose between the root domain or the www version, and configure automatic redirects. We'll also look at using subdomains, assigning domains to specific websites or funnels, and configuring options like custom 404 pages and robots.txt.

[10:30] Once your domains are connected, I'll show you where to assign them throughout GoHighLevel. Whether you're working with websites, blogs, or funnels, each section allows you to select which domain should be displayed to visitors. I'll also explain a few differences if you're using AI Studio.

[11:41] If you're using WordPress inside GoHighLevel, there's a separate domain setup process. We'll connect a custom domain, automatically configure SSL certificates, verify the DNS records, and look at additional WordPress management features, including backups, analytics, plugin management, PHP settings, and multiple domain support.

[15:28] Next is email, and this is probably the most important section of the entire video. Proper email domain configuration has a huge impact on deliverability. I'll show you how to create dedicated sending domains like mail.yourdomain.com, automatically configure the required DNS records—including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC—and verify everything so your emails have the best chance of reaching your customers' inboxes.

[18:25] After your email domains are verified, we'll configure email headers and sender identities. This ensures your emails display a friendly sender name while maintaining proper domain authentication behind the scenes, which helps improve both branding and email reputation.

[19:24] We'll also create a dedicated domain for calendar notifications. This lets appointment confirmations, reminders, and booking emails come from a branded calendar-specific domain, helping keep your communication organized and professional.

[20:47] I'll then show you how to assign different email domains to different parts of the CRM, including one-to-one emails, bulk campaigns, calendar notifications, payment emails, and client portal notifications. Separating these domains can improve deliverability and reduce the impact if one sending domain experiences issues.

[22:18] Next, we'll configure a dedicated payment email domain and discuss how organizing separate domains for different functions helps isolate risk while keeping your email infrastructure clean and scalable.

[23:05] I'll also share a simple tip for managing your DNS records inside Cloudflare. By adding comments and organizing your records, you'll make future troubleshooting and maintenance much easier, especially as your DNS configuration grows.

[24:30] Finally, we'll finish configuring the remaining email domains for the client portal and one-time password notifications. I'll also explain domain warm-up and why gradually increasing email volume is important for maintaining a healthy sender reputation.

[27:32] The last domain we'll configure is the client portal. If you're using memberships, online courses, or communities, you'll learn how to connect a branded portal domain, configure it with Cloudflare, and prepare your membership site for your users.

[30:20] To wrap everything up, I'll recap the entire setup process and share a few recommendations for getting everything configured at once. Spending a little extra time during your initial setup saves a lot of headaches later, especially when it comes to email deliverability and branding. Once everything is configured, you'll simply choose the appropriate domain whenever you create new websites, funnels, emails, or other assets inside GoHighLevel.
