Duration: Approximately 3 minutes | Published: July 31, 2026

Learn how to eliminate duplicate CRM records in GoHighLevel by merging contacts step-by-step. Discover how to consolidate conflicting custom fields, retain vital history, and assign the correct primary email address without losing data.

Key Takeaways:

  • Preserve Critical Data: Merging duplicate contacts in GoHighLevel lets you retain valuable customer records, notes, and activity history without splitting them across multiple profiles.

  • Control Field Mapping: You can choose a master contact record and manually toggle which field values—like updated emails, plans, or original lead sources—take precedence.

  • Prevent Automation Overlaps: Consolidating duplicate CRM profiles stops contacts from being enrolled in the same workflow multiple times or receiving duplicate marketing emails.

  • Set Updated Primary Communications: After combining records, you can immediately reassign the updated email address as the primary contact endpoint for future sequences.

FAQ's:

What happens to the secondary contact after a merge in GoHighLevel?

The secondary contact record is absorbed into the primary master contact. All relevant selected attributes, tags, and history are consolidated into one profile, while the duplicate profile is deleted from the CRM search list.

Can I select which contact acts as the "Master" record?

Yes, during the merge process, GoHighLevel allows you to pick which contact serves as the primary master record, while still letting you override specific fields using values from the secondary contact.

How do I handle contacts that have updated email addresses?

You can merge the existing historical record with the new record, choose the preferred source for specific fields, and then set the new address as the "Primary Email" inside the final merged profile.

Will merging contacts trigger automated email sequences again?

No, merging combines the profile history into one record. In fact, merging contacts prevents users from receiving duplicate emails or entering the same automation sequence twice under two separate profiles.

[0:00] Hey! Guys and Gals. In this short video I'm going to show you how to merge contacts inside of your AlphaBlossom CRM. Or if you're a HighLevel user inside of your HighLevel. Or your GHL CRM. So sometimes you'll have multiple contacts. Maybe they have different emails. Maybe the same phone number or different emails. But you know it's the same contact. And you just want to merge them into one so you can keep things together. And better organize. So it's very easy to do. HighLevel provides you with an easy way to do that. And make sure you can really curate which information is being merged from one. So that you're not losing the information. And let's just jump into it.

[0:32] And I'll show you how to do it. If you're not already subscribed to this channel click that subscribe button down below. I've also got some a really cool affiliate links down below. So let's jump into it. And I'll see you on the other side. So inside of our dash. Contacts. We're going to search for the contact that we want to merge. And you can see we've got a couple different contacts with the same name. And that's the right person that we want to merge.

[1:11] So we're going to select both of those. And then up top where it says more. We're going to select the dropdown. And we're going to click merge. And then it's going to give us a couple different options. You can actually go field by field here. Or you can just have fields with different values. So we're just going to do the fields with different values. Since all the other fields are already identified matched up. But if you want to really get granular and just come through you can do that and go and check. And you can select. So basically it's going up the email. So you can which version has control of which of these different fields.

[1:44] So for example if I wanted this right now is the master. If I wanted to use the lead value from the other contact I could select that here. And I go through and identify. But to do quickly. We're just going to come here. And we're actually going to make this one on the right. The master that was his original contact. We've got a new contact here with the email. So we want to definitely merge the email. I'm going to click the source here. As the original source. And then same with the plans here. And then that's it. You just want to make sure everything is selected right the way you want to merge. And then I'm going to merge the contacts.

[2:19] And now you can see. We've got the contact merged here. And now you can set the primary email. I'm going to verify that. We're going to actually select the new email as the primary. This is probably the reason why he created a second contact. Was to get his email updated. But we want to make sure we're not losing any information as well. So by doing that now we have that. And then everything is merged. So if we go back. And we search again. You can see now we only have one contact. So everything has been merged. And we are ready to go. Alright! Guys and Gals. It's super easy to merge your contacts. Keep your contact list clean.

[2:57] So you don't have a bunch of duplicates. People aren't getting the same emails multiple times. Or put through the same workflows or things like that.
